Peppino’s: My Favorite Italian Restaurant

Food / Monday, August 31st, 2015

Now, I think I’ve made it pretty obvious on my previous blog posts that I appreciate a good meal, but when it comes to a restaurant that never seems to disappoint me — Peppino’s in Brooklyn is just that restaurant. And I’m not just talking about good food, Peppino’s delivers authentic dishes that are to die for, AND outstanding service.

In this blog post, I’d like to start off with the restaurants’ story. Peppino’s is an Italian restaurant located in Brooklyn, New York. There are two locations, one in Bay Ridge and the other in Park Slope. The first location in Bay Ridge opened up in 2004 as one of the first wood burning brick oven pizza restaurants in the area. The story begins with two brothers, years of making pizza, cheese, sauce, and homemade dough, all filled with tons of love. Sounds a little cheesy, right? But its not. There’s no surprise that this family owned restaurant loves what they do, and you can clearly tell in their authentic dishes. Aside from their brick oven pizza, Peppino’s offers a variety of Italian specialties ranging from heroes, pasta, platters, and Philly Cheesesteaks (just one of my personal favorites!).

So, one of the many times that I’ve dined at Peppino’s, it occurred to me that I needed to let the world know about this Brooklyn gem that never fails me — but surprises me with food that leaves me in awe every single time. Listed below are just a FEW dishes that have my heart.

One of my favorite dishes is the Mozzarella En Carozzo. I like to identify it as an Italian grilled cheese sandwich, because that’s exactly what it resembles. If you enjoy mozzarella as much as I do, this cheesy dish is a must.

Next on my lists of favorites, is Bruschette. Absolutely amazing! Now, I’ve ordered bruschette from many Italian restaurants and have been disappointed on many occasions — either the bread is too hard or there’s not enough flavor. For those that don’t know, bruschette is made up of chopped tomato, basil, garlic, onion and olive oil on a warm Italian bread.

Peppino’s also makes some of the best baked clams you’ll ever have! These Littleneck Baked Clams are topped with a delicious decadent crust — a perfect start to any Italian meal.

If you enjoy mussels, the Zuppa Di Mussels in white wine sauce is absolute perfection. Make sure to dip some Italian bread in it…you’ll thank me later.

Peppino’s is well known for their famous Philly Cheese Steaks. Unfortunately, I don’t have the recipe that makes their cheesesteaks so amazing (I don’t think I would share it if I did) but I do know that these bad boys are loaded with mushrooms, fried onions and peppers.

Next on my list of Peppino’s favorites is the Penne Alla Vodka. This delicious pasta dish is topped with peas in a rich, pink cream sauce.

The spaghetti and octopus with tomato basil sauce is also a great pasta dish. I promise that this will be the most tender octopus you ever had.

And finally, for dessert, I like to order the Nutella pie with a nice cappuccino — and yes, I said Nutella pie. Chocolate is my # 1 comfort food (for most people to say the least). Inside this yummy pie is Nutella, it’s warm, and the crust is just right — need I say more? Like the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. Ordering a few scoops of vanilla ice cream would also go perfect with this dessert.

“At the end of every rainbow is Peppino’s pizza, cause it’s just as good as gold!” Whoever drew this, hit it right on the nail!
